There are seasons in life when everything feels uncertain. Doors close unexpectedly, familiar routines become uncomfortable, and you begin to sense that God is doing something new—even if you can't yet see what it is.
Could it be that God is preparing you for something bigger?
Throughout the Bible, God often prepared His people in hidden ways before leading them into greater assignments. Joseph endured years of hardship before becoming a leader in Egypt. David spent years as a shepherd and fugitive before becoming king. Moses spent forty years in the wilderness before leading Israel out of bondage. If you are in a season of waiting or transition, here are some signs that God may be preparing you for something greater.
1. You Feel Uncomfortable Where You Once Felt Comfortable
Sometimes God stirs your spirit by making your current season feel too small for your calling. The things that once excited you no longer satisfy you. This discomfort isn't always a sign of failure—it can be a sign of growth. God often uses holy dissatisfaction to move us toward His purpose.
2. Doors Are Closing

It can be painful when opportunities disappear or plans fall apart. But closed doors are not always rejection; they can be divine redirection. What feels like a setback today may actually be God protecting you from something that isn't part of His plan.
3. God Is Developing Your Character
Before God elevates people, He often refines them. You may find yourself learning patience, humility, perseverance, forgiveness, or trust. These lessons are not random. God is preparing your character to sustain the blessings He intends to give you.
4. Your Faith Is Being Tested
Faith grows strongest during difficult seasons. Challenges teach us to rely on God rather than our own understanding. If your faith is being stretched, it may be because God is preparing you for responsibilities that require deeper trust in Him.
5. You Have a Growing Burden or Vision
Perhaps you feel strongly drawn to serve others, start a ministry, mentor young people, or pursue a calling you've ignored for years. God often plants visions in our hearts long before they become reality. Pay attention to the burdens He places within you—they may be clues to your future assignment.
What then do you do in such a time?
Trust the Process
Preparation seasons are rarely easy. They are often lonely, confusing, and slow. But remember: God prepares people privately before He uses them publicly. If you are walking through uncertainty today, don't lose heart. God sees you. He is shaping you, strengthening you, and preparing you for what lies ahead. The waiting season is not wasted. Your story is still unfolding, and God is not finished with you yet.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your plans for my life, even when I cannot fully understand them. In seasons of waiting, uncertainty, and change, help me to trust that You are working behind the scenes for my good. Lord, strengthen my faith when doors close and give me courage when the future seems unclear. Shape my character, teach me patience, and prepare me for the purpose You have ordained for me. Help me to embrace Your timing and not rush ahead of You. May I remain faithful in the small things as You prepare me for greater things. I declare that my waiting season is not wasted, for You are making all things beautiful in Your time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
